Development impacts
-
Local economic growth
BIO’s investment will be used to grow the MSME loan portfolio and to finance expansion in a post-COVID environment.
The expected growth will be generated exclusively through the financing of MSMEs.
CIDRE offers a range of financial products & services, as well as financial skills and business development trainings.
-
Financial inclusion
CIDRE has a strong focus on microentrepreneurs– mostly informal and smallholder farmers
The distribution network of 30 branches is located across the country, mostly in financially underserved zones of the country
-
Food security & rural development
CIDRE offers specific agricultural products; with more than a third of its credit portfolio invested directly in agriculture in 2020.
With about half of its clients living in rural areas, CIDRE has a strong rural outreach.
E&S Impact
CIDRE will
- raise awareness of E&S impact amongst it end-clients
- take measures regarding workers' organisation and road safety
- align fully with the EDFI exclusion list
- sign up to the Client Protection Pathway and work on the gaps identified in the social rating report
Current situation
CIDRE has an E&S Policy in place which defines their responsibility and ambitions towards all stakeholders. Each year, the institution develops an E&S action plan with concrete improvement measures. E&S is also incorporated as an aspect of the entity's management and strategic planning.
The institution applies an exclusion list as part of its credit analysis, and performs a short climate risk assessment and calculation of the carbon & water footprint for certain industries. The institution also monitors its own use of water, electricity & paper and has developed green products for its clients.
CIDRE has done a social rating in June 2021 and received an A- score.
