The Concession and the PPA were awarded to the project company after a transparent and fair bidding process in July 2013. The original developers sold their share in 2013 to project developer GreenWish Africa REN, who finalized the project development. After a construction period of 8 months, COD of 20MW has been achieved in December 2016 and made Senergy 2 the first operational solar IPP in Senegal and the largest solar power station in West Africa.
The project is located in Bokhol, 385km north-east of Dakar, close to the border with Mauritania. Senergy 2 has secured a 25 years land lease agreement for 50 ha. Power will continue to be evacuated by a 370 meters transmission line to the existing substation, which is connected to the grid
